Guirassy Stars in Guinea’s 4-1 Victory Over Ethiopia
( JOHANNESBURG )Serhou Guirassy delivered a stunning performance for Guinea, scoring a hat-trick in their 4-1 victory against Ethiopia during the final third-round qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The match took place on Saturday, showcasing Guirassy’s pace and skill, which proved too much for the Ethiopian defense to handle.
In a separate match, Morocco crushed the Central African Republic 5-0, with Azzedine Ounahi scoring twice. Other contributors to Morocco’s dominance included Abde Ezzalzouli, Achraf Hakimi, and Soufiane Rahimi, each netting a goal as they led 4-0 by halftime. Morocco’s victory equaled the largest winning margin in the 2025 qualifiers, matching South Africa’s earlier 5-0 win over Congo Brazzaville.
Morocco automatically qualifies for AFCON as hosts, with the tournament scheduled from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, marking the first time it spans two years.
In the Group H match, Guirassy, who was born in France to Guinean parents, opened the scoring with an 18th-minute penalty, sending Ethiopian goalkeeper Seid Habtamu the wrong way. He followed up with two more goals—one in the 37th minute and another just before halftime—both showcasing his ability to outpace defenders and finish with precision from close range.
Guirassy’s hat-trick marks the first of the 2025 qualifying campaign and positions him as one of the tournament’s joint top scorers alongside Algeria’s Amine Gouiri, Egypt’s Mahmoud ‘Trezeguet’ Hassan, and Ivory Coast’s Jean-Philippe Krasso.
Early in the second half, Seydouba Cisse added to the scoreline with a goal, assisted by Mady Camara. After a disappointing previous round where Guinea managed just one goal in two matches against the Democratic Republic of Congo and Tanzania, the team displayed a remarkable turnaround, scoring four goals in just 48 minutes.
