Chahat Fateh Ali Khan’s cover of the Bollywood hit “Tauba Tauba” is making waves on social media once again. The video, shared on Instagram, has prompted a flurry of humorous reactions from followers and caught the attention of the song’s original artist, Karan Aujla.
This latest upload of Chahat’s notably flat vocal rendition has received tens of thousands of comments in just three days. In the video, Chahat performs against a motion backdrop of the Taj Mahal, complete with various special effects. Karan humorously chimed in on the comments section, pleading, “Uncle, don’t do this please.”
Fans responded to Karan’s comment with a stream of laughing emojis. One user quipped, “Karan bhai lost his temper, finally,” while another humorously apologized, saying, “Sir, I sincerely ask for your forgiveness.” A fan joked, “Brother’s career is in jeopardy,” and someone else suggested, “I think a collaboration with this uncle is a must now after this release.”
Chahat’s cover also caught the eye of renowned director Karan Johar, who reshared it on his Instagram Stories with the caption “Must watch” and a red heart emoji. One commenter noted, “This guy (Chahat) just has an enormous fan following. Whatever song he makes becomes a hit. Whether you listen to it happily or cover your ears, make a meme, or just pay it slight attention, a hit is a hit, right?”
Local celebrities also chimed in with their thoughts. Kinza Hashmi described it as “very creative,” while Amna Ilyas humorously referenced the song’s title, repenting for its creation. Other comments ranged from sympathy for Karan Aujla to predictions about a decline in tourism to the Taj Mahal.
Chahat, who gained popularity in the digital space during 2020, shared in an interview with podcaster Ansh Sachdeva that he was once a cricketer. Recently, he also garnered attention with his cover of “Bado Badi,” originally by Noor Jehan from the 1973 film Banarsi Thug. Although the cover was eventually taken down from YouTube due to copyright issues, it sparked significant online discussion.
Chahat’s stage name is a playful nod to the famous Fateh Ali Khan qawwal family of Pakistan, which includes well-known artists like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. He revealed during the podcast that his real name is Kashif Rana, and he is married with seven children.
