ISLAMABAD:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday praised the successful hosting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of Government meeting, calling it a significant diplomatic achievement for Pakistan.
“Pakistan’s international diplomatic profile has been further enhanced following the successful hosting of this summit,” the prime minister remarked during a banquet held in honor of senators from government-allied parties.
He congratulated political leaders on the successful conclusion of the SCO summit and highlighted the collaborative efforts of various institutions in ensuring its success.
The prime minister also noted that the visit of the Chinese Premier prior to the SCO meeting had been highly fruitful.
SCO Development Priorities
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to advancing the SCO’s development goals during a meeting with SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming on the sidelines of the 23rd SCO Council of Heads of Government (CHG).
He emphasized that Pakistan was fully committed to collaborating with member states to strengthen the organization. The prime minister also welcomed Secretary-General Ming to Islamabad, expressing gratitude for the support provided by the SCO Secretariat in organizing the summit.
Pakistan and Mongolia
In a separate meeting with his Mongolian counterpart, Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif proposed sending Mongolian civil servants to Pakistan’s training institutions and suggested designating 2025 as the “Year of Pakistan-Mongolia Friendship” to deepen bilateral ties. Both leaders discussed opportunities for enhancing cooperation in trade, tourism, agriculture, and mining.
