Bruce to miss Blackpool match after baby grandson’s death

Blackpool manager Steve Bruce will be absent from Saturday’s match against Barnsley following the tragic death of his four-month-old grandson, Madison.

In a statement, the club described Madison’s passing as “sudden and unexpected,” adding, “Everyone at the football club sends their love to Steve and his family. We ask that their privacy is respected.”

Millwall also expressed their “unconditional love and support” to former striker Matt Smith, Madison’s father and Bruce’s son-in-law. Smith, who played for clubs including Leeds United, Fulham, QPR, and Salford City, retired in August after making 91 appearances for Millwall.

Bruce, 63, took charge of Blackpool in September on a two-year deal after a nearly two-year break from football management. Under his leadership, the team has climbed to 10th place in League One, with just one loss in six matches.
