France: Black Day observed against IIOJK occupation

PARIS Hundreds of overseas Kashmiris and Pakistanis in France observed “Black Day” on Sunday, marking October 27 as a day of protest against India’s 1947 occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.

The event, organized by the International Kashmir Peace Forum France (IKPFF), brought together Pakistani immigrants, Kashmiris, journalists, and Sikh community members.

Speakers at the gathering unanimously pledged to support the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination until a peaceful resolution is reached.

They emphasized the enduring and legitimate struggle of the Kashmiri people, who have sought this right for more than seven decades.

IKPFF President Zahid Iqbal Hashmi addressed the crowd, highlighting that peace in South Asia depends on resolving the Kashmir issue in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the will of the Kashmiri people. He described October 27, 1947, as one of Kashmir’s darkest days, marking the onset of Indian forces suppressing Kashmiris’ aspirations for self-determination.

Hashmi added that since 1947, India has denied Kashmiris their democratic rights and is now building a substantial military presence in the region to counter the ongoing political struggle.

He urged the global community to help resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the people of IIOJK.

Sikh leaders also addressed the event, with chants raised against India and in support of Kashmir’s freedom struggle. Children took the stage to perform national songs, adding to the event’s atmosphere.
