A woman from Karachi’s Lyari has been arrested for allegedly stealing 20 tola of gold from a neighbor’s house and using part of the proceeds to fund an Umrah pilgrimage.
The Baghdadi Police registered the case on October 27 and apprehended the suspect, identified as Shehnaz, after receiving a tip-off.
According to a police spokesperson, Shehnaz’s husband, Imran, was initially detained and revealed during questioning that his wife was responsible for the theft.
Following her arrest, authorities recovered three tola of gold jewellery and approximately Rs1.5 million in cash from her possession.
“Shehnaz stole the jewellery while the neighbors were away, sold 17 tola, and used the proceeds to finance her Umrah trip,” a police official stated.
Police are continuing investigations to recover the remaining stolen items and identify any accomplices involved in the crime. Ongoing raids are being conducted to ensure the full recovery of the stolen jewellery.
